AN INTERVIEW WITH MELWhere were you born?
Chicago
Where did you go to high school?
Fort Smith Northside
Hobbies?
Guitar, songwriting and photography. My photo of the John Lennon IMAGINE mosaic in New York's Central Park is available on my photos website and at Vintage Stock on 71st in Broken Arrow and on 41st Street in Tulsa. Several pieces of my art photography on canvas are now on display at Symmetry Salon & Gallery at 5800 S. Lewis in London Square.
Favorite Food?
(I'm not Italian, but) Italian: Pizza, fettuccine alfredo, etc.
Favorite Restaurant?
Too many good ones in T-town to single out one. I always get good treatment at all of them, so I don't want to blow it by picking just one!
Favorite television show?
Heroes. I guess I'm a nut for superheroes anyway, but this is such an excellent twist on the genre.
Favorite song?
It changes daily. I listen to so much music that whatever's my favorite today, I'll be burned out on tomorrow.
Your favorite website?
Google. If I need information on ANYTHING, Google never lets me down.
How did you start in this business? I think I got the radio bug when I won a pizza in a radio call-in contest when I was 12. My first radio job was at the station I won the pizza from, but about 6 years later.
Any entertainment background you want to include?
I play guitar & bass and have fronted rock bands that opened for Billy Squier, Peter Frampton & Styx. [Star 103.3 Afternoon Host] Wavy Davy and I go way back in rock bands together.
First car?
'64 Impala SS Convertible. Wish I'd kept it. I'd sell it at the Leake Auction and build my home in the woods!
First job?
Working for my dad, helping his crew deliver giant refrigerated meat cases to grocery stores. That grueling work helped me aspire to a job where I could sit on my butt and enjoy music.
Favorite memory in this business?
Boy, do I have some memories! The highs would sound self-serving, and the lows will have to wait for my book...or maybe the CD I plan to get out soon. It's easier to tell some things in song, I think. Truly, I'm grateful every day for the opportunity to do a job I love in a city I love and help people start each new workday. I know not everyone can say they enjoy their work, so I feel very blessed.
